For sulfur reducing bacteria removal we recommend chlorinating your well before installing this system. This is a fairly simple process in which we will supply easy to follow step by step instructions.
The Iron Max-FX is considered a maintenance free whole house water filter. There are no routine filters to replace and requires no chemicals. The Iron Max-FX will filter and clarify your water by filtering iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide gas, and suspended solids in the water. It will also improve the taste & odor of your water. The Iron Max-FX is controlled by a selfbackwashing control valve which will initiate a 10 minute backwash and then a 10 minute rinse (some applications require longer backwashes) approximately every 2-5 days depending on iron levels. The filtration media will need to be exchanged approximately every 8 to 10 years*. This is easily accomplished with the use of a wet & dry vacuum which you use to vacuum out the old filtration media from the top of the filter. You then replace it with a new bed of filtration media which will last approximately another 8 to 10 years*. This is the only maintenance that the system will require. * Some applications may require a more frequent replacement interval.

*Will the Iron Max-FX Series soften and totally remove hard water?
Answer: The Iron Max-FX Series will filter and remove iron, manganese, sediment, hydrogen sulfide gas and suspended solids, it will alsoreduce the effects of hard water scale with a built-in no salt hard water scale treatment module. To "soften water" you actually have to remove the calcium and magnesium hard water minerals with salt-based ion exchange systems. With the Iron Max-FX Series calcium and magnesium remains in your water. These systems are alternatives to salt based water softeners and perfect for customers who don't want to add salt to their water, don't want the hassle of salt maintenance, or just want to Go Green! Unlike salt water softeners the Iron Max-FX drain water can bereclaimed and is safe for septic tanks.

How The No Salt, No Chemicals To Add Whole House Water Filter Iron Max-FX Series Works

What is your Iron Max Well Water Filter used for?
The Iron Max system has several uses. It is primarily used for well water residential applications where superior water is desired for both taste and functional use. It is also used for commercial applications where iron prevention is required, applications such as; whole house, business, irrigation, pre-treatment, Reverse Osmosis pre-treatment, etc.

Is there any routine maintenance involved with the Iron Max:
No, The Iron Max is considered a maintenance free whole house water filter. That is, there are no routine filters to replace and requires no chemicals. If the Iron Max does not use chemicals or sodium, what does it use?
Just water is needed for backwashing! The Iron Max creates filtered water at every tap - it does not add anything to your water. The Iron Max System will oxidize and absorb iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide gas from your water and trap it within the filter. Approximately every 1-5 days*, the automatic control valve will initiate a backwash cycle for approximately 20 minutes and rinse the trapped particles down a drain or elsewhere. The system will then automatcially re-set itself to backwash for another 1-5 days*. * Some applications may require a more frequent backwash interval.

How much well water iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide gas will the Iron Max filter?
The Iron Max requires a pH of 6.8 or greater and will filter high levels of Ferrous and Ferric Iron up to 15ppm (mg/L), Manganese up to 5ppm (mg/L) Hyrogen Sulfide Gas up to 3ppm (mg/L) as well as unpleasant tastes and odors. . The Iron Max will not treat iron bacteria, sulfur reducing bacteria, colloidal iron, or organic iron. If these bacteria's are present you will need to chlorinate your well to prevent any iron bacteria or sulfur reducing bacteria from passing through the Iron Max well water filter. Your instructions will include easy to follow well chlorination instructions and detailed information on iron bacteria.

How Does it work: No Salt ! The Iron Max-FX water well system is unique in the following ways:

1. Only one piece of equipment is needed for multiple water problems. This actually can create an overall cost savings.
2. The media utilizes an oxidization-reduction reaction and filtration process to filter iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide gas.

3.The built-in no salt magnetic module is designed to reduce the effects of hard water without chemicals.

4. Ferrous and Ferric Iron, Manganese & Hydrogen Sulfide Gas (rotten egg smell) problems that often require the use of *chemicals such as potassium permanganate or chlorine, are eliminated. However, the use of an additional oxidizing agent (e.g. oxygen, chlorine, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, etc.) is recommended if iron bacteria, sulfur reducing bacteria, colloidal iron, organic iron or if tannins are present . Oxidizers will not adversely affect the media. As a matter of fact they will enhance its performance. In rare cases this pre-treatment may also be required if your water has a high ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) because highly reducing waters may cause premature exhaustion or even destruction of the filter media.
5. The existence of local bans on salt based water equipment is not an issue with this system. No objectionable chlorides are dispensed into the drain system. The drain water from the Iron Max is safe for your septic, plants, etc..

Will the Iron Max-FX Series soften water?

No, The Iron Max-FX Series will filter iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide gas and suspended solids. To "soften water" you actually have to remove the calcium and magnesium hard water minerals.
